8/20 BanJo Update
Keep those prayers and good wishes coming for Miss BanJo.
Her surgery took place this AM, and unfortunately it did not go as well as we’d hoped.
Her shunt was inside the liver rather than outside of it, which complicated things considerably,
but the surgeons did what they could to redirect blood flow to her liver, and now it’s a waiting
game to see how she does immediately post-op and over the next few weeks. We’ll continue to post
updates, and want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have donated so generously to
provide BanJo with this opportunity for a longer, more happy life. The bills continue to add up
for BanJo’s care and will continue over the next few weeks, so any and all donations are welcome and appreciated.
Thanks again from BanJo and all of us at Western Border Collie Rescue!
BanJo's Story
Many of you have followed BanJo’s brief story since she landed in rescue a month or so ago, a skinny, scared girl that was
picked up by a Good Samaritan who found her standing on the side of a remote ID highway. Despite great nutrition, lots of
exercise and tummy rubs, BanJo did not gain weight, didn’t feel well, didn’t rebound, so after several trips to the vet,
we were told she was in liver failure with a very short time left to live. We decided to get a second opinion just to verify
her diagnosis, and learned that she is NOT in liver failure, but has a liver shunt which should be easily remedied with one
surgical procedure. Thanks to a caring vet in CO, we can get BanJo’s surgery done for much less than “retail”, and hope to
have her surgery done and BanJo well on the road to recovery by the end of August!
Her diagnostics, surgery, followup care and testing will run about $3,000.00. Each vet involved with BanJo has been very generous in providing services at a greatly reduced rate, but $3000 is a huge sum of money for a rescue the size of ours. We’re asking for donations in any amount you can spare – if just 300 people gave $10 each, all of the costs would be covered. Please help us help BanJo to have the happy, healthy and long life she deserves, and be a part of her much-deserved miracle.
