'Twas the Night Before Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
OK, so maybe one creature was slightly astir,
It's our fair little rescue, with the wacky liver.
She had heard of this fella with the deer and the sleigh,
All her buddies had told her, but she said, “No way!”.
When suddenly she heard out on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
Down the chimney he came, so lively and quick,
She knew in a moment it must be Saint Nick.
His eyes -- how they twinkled! His dimples - how merry!
With a mouth like a dog bone, and a nose like a cherry!
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.
She stood by the tree and wagged her tail at this guy;
He turned, and he looked, and his smile got wide.
"Well, well - who is this?" he said "Ho Ho Ho,
You must be the wonderful pup they call BanJo!”
“I've heard all about you," said jolly Saint Nick,
"How they found you abandoned, and how you were sick.”
“A vet gave you mere weeks - such a shame, just a pup! -
But you life-loving creature, you never gave up.”
“You inspired us all with your spirit and pluck
Then a great surgeon stepped forward, of all of the luck.”
“They whisked you away to Colorado
And to a new foster family you quickly did go.”
“These 2 vets showed you love, adventure and fun galore
They helped you recuperate, took you skiing and more.”
“The surgery was tough and not a 100% win
But you're much better now than you've ever been!”
“And so you now stand before me in this cozy warm place
You're indeed looking splendid with your puppy dog face.”
“I'll give you anything, little girlie, you just say the word"
And he could barely make out, but "To stay here" is what he heard.
"Well then," Santa laughed "I bring what you want most of all.
Dear BanJo, you're no foster...you're really home after all."
And our girl, she went wild, grinned like mad, showered kisses -
Then up the chimney Santa rose without a moment to miss
And they heard him exclaim as he flew through the night
"Congratulations dear BanJo, may you have a great life!”
We're all totally thrilled that you fell for this lass -
So thank you Felix (and surprise, Colleen!) - foster failures, First Class!!!
