Success Stories

"Ellie" -- adopted July 2010

Meet Ellie! This darling little pixie is a physics major's dream - always....in....motion. If you are looking for a tiny, happy bundle of energy, then this is your girl!

With her classic markings, fabulous fluffy ears, tiny build, and giant smile, Ellie is hard to resist. Which works great for her, as she is QUITE the social butterfly! Super with all people and kids, Ellie is hardly what we could call "shy". She's equally outgoing with members of her own species, and is a real pro at playing with (and herding) other dogs. Yes, she's a herdy girl, so cats are a no-no for her. She also needs to be closely supervised around livestock, as she has a strong interest in movement/desire to chase, typical of the breed.

When not playing with other dogs, Ellie is learning about the wonders of toys and is starting to fetch...she also loves going for runs and hiking and will make a wonderful athlete's companion. Although she is quick and agile, Ellie is easily distracted and would probably need some work on learning to focus to really excel at dog sports. She really thrives on activity and action, and if not provided enough outlets for her neverending energy, she will happily take to finding other not-so-desirable occupations to entertain herself, such as digging. She crates beautifully, but left alone in a yard too long, and she will put her “excavational artistry” to work!

Given her happy, trusting nature, it's hard to believe that this 1 ½ year old purebred has had the past she has. Ellie came to WBCR when her former owner was arrested for animal cruelty...Ellie was found extremely emaciated, and her household-sharing littermate had been starved to death. Thanks to the concern of a caring good samaritan, Ellie was spared euthanasia at the local shelter, and we were contacted to help.

Ellie came to us with a few skills (perhaps someone worked with her in the past?) and is quickly learning more. She's housetrained, cratetrained, and knows a few of the basics like sit. She comes when called really well, and does not challenge the fence in her foster home. Like most young BCs, Ellie will really benefit from additional training.

Ellie will do best in a home who love the go-go-go type of BC, where she will be provided with LOTS of exercise and stimulation, a continuing education, and fair and consistent rules for her to live with. She'd love to live with another playful dog or two - no cats, though! - and a busy family household with kids could work for her, too. Whoever gets to take this delightful little sprite home will have scored an irresistible little busy bee, who is sure to bring years of adventures and smiles to their lives.

Ellie is spayed, fully vetted and living in a loving foster home near Castle Rock, CO.
