Success Stories

"Radar" -- adopted May 2010

Do you love a lively, engaging, affectionate, life-loving, bright, and playful kind of fella? Well, you are gonna LOVE Radar!

Radar is a 1 ˝ year old flashy, classically marked rough coat BC. He is as sharp as he looks, charming, and full of fun, fun, fun! Where did we find this little gem? Radar came to WBCR as an owner surrender. He was living in a home with 7 young kids which he tended to ‘herd’, and led to him being mistreated.

Despite his less than happy past, Radar has kept his good nature. He thrives on attention from people, and really enjoys human company. If you want a constant companion, Radar is the dog for you! Although he’s a little slow to warm up to men, he really loves women, and he gets a 10 on the affection scale. He’s a leaner – he’s a hugger – he’s a world class foot warmer, too! Radar loves to be petted and touched and the more of it, the better! (Except at grooming time - like a lot of BCs, Radar is very sensitive to touch, and finds brushing or combing or baths really upsetting!) He is content to just be near you, too, if you are busy doing something else, especially if he has a bone to chew on. He is going to attach strongly to his adopter(s) and really enjoys being someone’s little shadow.

Radar also loves other dogs, and will race to greet any and all he comes across. Is he playful? You bet! But when playing he will still keep an ear out for his person, and comes running if you call. If there are no dogs to play with, he really enjoys playing fetch with a ball or Frisbee and anyone willing to throw it for him! Radar’s smooth running style, speed, leaping ability, and responsiveness all spell sports potential for this boy. He’s also quite a herdy and movement-reactive pup, and will chase and nip heels (especially little ones)…because of this, he will not be placed in a home with children. How he reacts to cats and running wildlife is an unknown. Being such a movement reactive boy, Radar gets super fired up when cars drive by him when walking on leash - he lunges and tries to chase them. He will need someone to work with him on being calm and collected when cars pass, and to be kept safe and away from situations where he could chase them. A 6 foot fenced yard would be ideal for Radar.

Radar is, however, bright and eager to learn and the sky’s the limit on what he can be taught. He’s already housetrained, crate-trained, and rides well in the car. He knows some of the basics and walks pretty nicely on a leash. He’s a supersensitive and very responsive boy who will cower and freeze at so much as a raised voice, but will excel with someone who uses gentle, force-free and reward based positive reinforcement training. Radar is also “a lotta dog” and will do best with a person who sets fair and consistent boundaries with him.

All in all, Radar is a fantastic dog, and if you are looking for the total BC package – intelligent, engaging, affectionate, athletic, and smashingly good looking - here it is!!

Radar is neutered & fully vetted and living in a loving foster home near Fort Collins, CO.
