Success Stories

"Archer" -- adopted February 2010

Meet Archer!! This classic BC with the sparking smile and the easygoing manner is about as debonair as they come...think Cary Grant in a black and white coat!! Archer is not only stunningly handsome, but ultra mellow and as sweet as they day is long. So how did we end up with such a winner??

Archer was brought to a Colorado vet clinic by his former owner to be euthanized because he is “old and deaf" and she was moving... Ooch! Eek! Ack! Fortunately, the vet clinic instead saw a BC with plenty of life left - not to mention a delightful dog with a winning temperament - and they contacted WBCR. Archer is now safe in foster care and awaiting the next chapter of his life!

And indeed, it is heartbreakingly true - Archer is as wonderful as the vet clinic reported. He is an amazingly adaptable and agreeable fellow who doesn't ask much, content with sleeping on a soft bed near you and the occasional ear scritch. He also especially likes snacks and is a shameless beggar!! Archer is a kind-hearted, peaceful boy who warms up quickly to humans and other dogs, too....he has been fine with his foster home’s 7 other dogs of all sizes and genders, fit himself into the group with no problems, and is even a little bit playful. He likes sticks and rope toys but has not shown a drop of herdy-ness. He only really lets his wild side show with the felines, with whom he is a little bit, shall we say, inconsistent?? Archer alternates between ignoring the cats in his foster home and barking at them/trying to chase them. Although it’s hardly a foot race, a home with no or dog-savvy cats would probably be best!!

Archer is housebroken and crate trained and, other than his occasional feline-taunting antics, is generally very well mannered. Although he does show signs of age - such as a partial loss of hearing and some stiffness in his hips - Archer seems a far cry from the 16 years his former owner claimed him to be. The vet has aged him at about 10 or so. He is hard of hearing, although certainly not deaf, as he can hear a whistle in the yard and close conversation. In his foster home, his canine friends alert him when it’s time to come in by circling him and running for the door if he is in the far part of the yard. Currently Archer is receiving carprofen for some hip pain and Glucosamine for his joints. His foster home is working on adding a few needed pounds to his leggy frame as well!

All in all, this lovable guy is sure to make some lucky family a completely wonderful, laid back companion. If you are looking for a faithful canine that will amble around the block with you and then be happy to kick back and watch a movie instead of training for a marathon, Archer may be your man!

Archer is currently living in a loving foster home in Longmont, Colorado.
