Success Stories

"Mia" -- adopted July 2010

Do you love a real deal Border Collie? Have we got one for you! Introducing Mia. This young high energy purebred is a herdy girl indeed, with a sweet nature and bewitching looks to boot. If you are looking for a fine specimen of the breed just oozing with potential...Mia may be your gal!

This petite, fairly classically marked rough coated lass came to WBCR from a rural Utah shelter. Picked up as a stray and never claimed, we know nothing about her history - though we sure are curious!

Mia is one of the more intense and driven members of the breed. She is polite but not gushingly friendly to new people, and although she really enjoys the company of other dogs and is super duper playful with them, she shows no interest in toys. It's movement that lights up this girl’s eyes, and she finds it irresistible, be it that of a fetching dog, a scampering squirrel, running children, moving vehicles...Mia focuses in and wants to pursue it!! Finding a constructive and enjoyable way to channel this urge will be the key to Mia's health & happiness.

Like a lot of dogs that come into rescue, it does not appear that Mia had much in the way of training in her past life. She now knows some of the basics, is crate trained and mostly housetrained. Mia will need an adoptive family who can devote the time and energy needed to further her training and help her become a delightful and well-behaved canine companion. She needs someone willing to work with her especially on focusing her attention away from movement, as well as provide an outlet for her instincts, and who can engage her physically as well as mentally.

This lovely girl will do best in a very active or dog sport home with BC experience. Although she has been gentle quietly interacting with children over 6, due to her tendency to chase she will not be placed in a home with small kids. Mia would be happiest if there is another playful dog to interact with in her forever home. We have not seen her with cats but suspect a cat-free home would be best for this very movement reactive girl!

Mia is a beautiful BC filled with possibility, who is sure to sparkle and shine in the right hands. If you love the intense 100% BC types and helping them fulfill their potential...Mia may be your dream come true! Mia is 1-2 years old, spayed, fully vaccinated and living in a loving foster home near Denver, CO.
