Success Stories

"Ella" -- adopted February 2010

Meet Ella! This long, lean, leggy 1 year old smooth coat purebred lass is just beautiful!! Found as a stray in rural Utah and never claimed, Ella came to WBCR in November one frightened little girl…but has already come a long way towards blossoming into one fantastic dog – and one world class cuddlebug, too!

Since arriving in foster care, Ella has shown herself to be the typically athletic and engaged Border Collie. She enjoys playing with the two resident BC boys and going to the dog park, where she gets along with other dogs, too. She is quite happy to entertain herself as well, and will run around the house with a toy when excited, growling and shaking it as hard as she can. Silly girl!! She is learning to fetch, too, and is an incredibly fast and strong runner with great potential for Flyball. She is a bit of a herdy girl but does really well with the 3 cats in her foster home, and actually cuddles with one of them! Of course, she would give up everything for some lovin’ from her family. While Ella is certainly no couch potato, she is not as energetic as some BCs, and doesn’t mind a little break in the action here and there to just hang out or snuggle snuggle snuggle.

As much as she attaches strongly to her people, Ella is pretty wary around new folks, and will get defensive if she is pushed too quickly by people. It takes her some time to warm up and feel comfortable around strangers. But watch out – once she does, you can’t keep the love she has to offer from overflowing! Once her shyness is overcome, she is the biggest love bug a Border Collie can be. She loves to give hugs and snuggle up on the couch with her family. Given her fearfulness, it is likely that kids will not be a good match for Miss Ella - but as you can see, patient adults, other dogs and cats are all just fine for Ella girl.

Ella is nearly 100% housetrained and has a great recall, and she is working on the basics in her foster home. She will need an understanding adopter who will continue with slow and steady socialization, and would certainly benefit from force-free, reward-based basic manners training, which will surely help to build her confidence.

Ella is a very nice girl who, in the right hands, will prove to be an extremely loving and delightful companion. If you are looking for a BC with a lot of the breed tendencies but without a lot of the compulsiveness - and have a soft spot for the wallflowers - then this little beauty may be the one for you!

Ella is spayed, current on vaccinations and living in a loving foster home near Fort Collins, CO.
