Success Stories

"Vixen" -- adopted February 2010

Do not adjust your monitor!! Vixen's eyes really are that blue - and yes, she has very unusual sable and white coloring too! Lovely Vixen is quite a foxy little lass, with a beautiful coat and delicate features. Not only does this petite little girl have uniquely showstopping appearance, but she's got a quirky and endearing personality to match.

This 2 year old petite little BC - who we suspect might be mixed with Sheltie - was rescued in early October from a high-kill shelter in Idaho. She landed in the shelter as a stray, so we know nothing about her history, but do know that she came into rescue extremely underweight and not feeling so great. She's now recovered from that, put on some much-needed weight, and is happy to show us her true colors!!

The first thing we discovered about Vixen is that she ADORES human company and considers every person her best friend, and she has proven herself to be quite the champion love-sponge and cuddlebug. She loves to burrow into the blankets and wants to lay in your lap in the evening - or any time, really! - and will cram herself onto it any chance she gets. But Vixen is not all snuggles, either. As her confidence builds, so does her capacity for play, and she has quickly caught on to fetch and playing with toys. Vixen is shaping up to be a very playful girl, but is not a go-all-day type. She's a moderate energy, well balanced pup, who is happy indoors or out, likes walks, runs, hikes, and playing games, but seems satisfied with both lazy and active days. She doesn't seem to be much of a herdy girl. She sticks to her people everywhere they go, never wandering off, and constantly checks to see where you are when off leash. Car rides are one of her favorite things to do, but her car legs are not well established as she is always falling off the seat for no reason!!

When she first arrived in rescue, it was clear she had had no training, but proved early that she is also a really fast learner. With typical BC intensity, an unbreakable focus, and her natural inclination to devote 110% of her attention to you without asking, training Vixen is a dream come true. Already she has a handle on several commands including the basics (sit, stay, wait, come...) and she is still learning. She's also completely house-trained, crate-trained herself in no time at all and looooves her crate! This girl is one smart cookie and with her focus and eagerness to learn - the sky's the limit to what she can learn!

This little character has lots of quirks that make you smile as well, starting with her interest in electronics that make noise. She has been caught a time ..ok a few times.. stealing cell phones, house phones and the alarm clock. She will steal these things in the night or come to you with confidence and slowly try to take it out of your hand. Not to worry...her stolen loot is always found on her bed! When silly Vixen is excited about things - when she sees you, at dinner time, to go outside - she spins in circles. She will also howl with you, and she gurgles when barking during play. Vixen is also the heaviest sleeper we have known. Once she falls asleep...preferably in your lap...in whatever position....she is out like a light! You can toss her and turn her and she will not move!

As you may have guessed, this adorable little princess is also a little opinionated, and what, may we ask, does she think of other dogs?? Not so much! We assume that Vixen was likely an only dog in her former life, and prefers to stay that way in her forever home as well. While she's learning more appropriate skills at meeting/being around other dogs, it's pretty clear that she reeeeeeeeally likes being the queen of her universe where other dogs are concerned, so we think a home where she'll be the only dog will be best for her. It also seems Vixen should live in a cat-free home as well.

This unusually beautiful, bright girl with the mesmerizing blue eyes is going to make the most wonderfully devoted, loving, and entertaining of companions to some lucky adopter. Her smile, her eyes, her silly behaviors are sure to light up your life. If you love a playful snugglebug, are quick to laugh, and are looking for a quirky, uniquely one-of-a-kind character. ...Vixen may be the girl for you!!

Vixen is spayed and fully vetted, and living in a loving foster home near Idaho Falls, ID.
